What questions to ask when planning content strategy, where to start, and how many posts to write in the first 6 months?

We're launching a new startup and I want to get SEO right. I need to prepare a content strategy but I have no idea where to start. One person says 'create personas' another says 'check search volume' another says 'analyze competitors'... They're all right but what's the starting order?

We've decided on content topics (keywords)... Now there's the decision on post type: blog post, 'how-to' article, or product page? Each probably has a different structure.

From a financial perspective, Im also asking: How many posts should we write in the first 6 months? btw 1 per week or 3? If a site that hasnt posted for 3 months tries to pump out 50 posts in 6 months will it be effective?

Content strategy starting order: 1) Business goals and KPIs — 'why are we writing?' (traffic? leads? branding?). 2) Persona — who will read this? 3) Keyword research — what is the persona searching for? 4) Competitor analysis — what are competitors doing, is there a gap?

5) Post type strategy — 'blog post' (general info), 'how-to' (step-by-step), 'case study' (example), 'comparison'. If you define your goals, the post type is determined.

On the number issue: Consistency > quantity. If you consistently write 1 post a week, it's better than 3 posts a week that aren't managed. We recommend: '1-2 posts per week depending on your capacity, for 6 months.' Then you take traffic data and improve the strategy.

from our own experience: We wrote bad posts in the first 3 months becaue we rushed... then we improved each post and quality increased in months 4-6 then it started showing up on Google after 4-5 months. so consistency + quality = money.

choosing the post type is also important — if it's a site selling products, 'comparison' posts drive sales. if it's an informational site, 'how-to' is good. btw we do consulting so we write case studies.

SEO checklist for each post: 1) Is the keyword in the title? 2) Is the meta description under 160 characters? 3) 2-3 images + alt text inside? 4) 2-3 internal links? 5) Is the heading structure H1-H2-H3 logical? 6) Is the post 1000+ words? Applying this checklist is more important than the number of posts.

Creating a persona is simple: 'Who is our ideal customer? What is their age, profession and problems?' For example, 'Ahmet 35, manager, wants to increase company efficiency.' Then you write thinking about Ahmet answering his questions in articles.

no matter how many posts you wite in 6 months the important thing isn't whether competitors are writing more but whether your posts answer the questions people are asking and our first post was 500 words but it appeared on Google in the 3rd month even though competitors wrote longer posts.

Content strategy: 1. Set goals 2. Research people 3. See what's needed 4. Write 5. Wait. Most people quit at step 5 and say 'why no ranking'. You need faith bro.

My perspective changed after experiencing that. If it's your first time, start small; scaling comes later.

Hope this helps.

I'm a small business let me explain from my side. Just because everyone does it doesn't mean it's right.

Processes without records never improve because you don't know what to fix. I'm also curious if anyone does it differently.

I was thinking the same thing. Don't trust anyone who gives guarantees; there are no guarantees in this business.

This is my opinion, I'm not claiming it's absolute truth.

There's a trap here, let me mention it. The biggest time-waster for us was not knowing who had the final say.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

the cheap-looking path usually ends up costing more later and taking notes for two weeks yields better results than a six-month estimate.

of course, it varies if your situation is different.

Let me summarize the topic, since several different answers were given. Start with a small trial; don't commit to everything at once.

Here's how it went for us. Discussing numbers without verifying the measurement setup is a waste of time.

Map listings bring more business than blog posts for most local businesses. Correct me if I'm wrong.

You're right, I've been down that road too. A competitor's ranking might come from years of accumulation, not just their content.

Any comment made without a control group is just a guess. This is my opinion, I'm not claiming it's absolute truth.

You're right I've been down that road too. When you try to change everything at once nothing settles.

If you post the result here, it will help others too.
