Thinking about partnering with someone else in my bakery — how do we fairly split oven capacity and production?

i'm a baker, i own my own bakery i work the night shift. another baker said 'let's partner up, increase capacity'. i can do nights, he can do days. but how do we split the electricity and fuel costs? will the production split be fair?

this is a classic industry problem. solution: tell the customer the 'real date'. then keep your patience.

stats: if you hire staff, costs go up 40%, but output can go up 60%. net: +20%.

legally: your business needs to have these and those permits. ask your accountant.

these kinds of questions are always the same: decide, do it, either succeed or fail.

if you're struggling, ask another shop owner. they're your best guides. there's no magic bullet.

man i think you're overthinking this. just go do what you gotta do, let the chips fall where they may.

edit: fixed a few typos.

I can't fully agree with this. Trying to do this alone is the most expensive way.

exactly, and not many people know this. honestly mistakes made on the bakery partnership side are usually reversible but expensive.

this is my opinion Im not claiming its absolute truth.

Let me summarize the topic, since several different answers were given. If decision-making authority isn't defined, it causes daily issues, not just during exits.

If you don't write this down from the start, it leads to arguments later. If you have questions, write them; I'll answer as best I can.

I agree with this. People defend habits, not processes. Resistance comes from there.

That's all, sorry if I went on too long.

Let me clarify the technical side. Are you looking for a partner or a co-founder? They are two different things.

The answer above hits the nail on the head. Don't hesitate to ask; those who don't ask always pay more.

I felt relieved reading this answer, so it's not just me. If you're offering equity instead of salary, also state what you're offering in return.

Everyone rushing into bakery partnership gets stuck at the same point. Just leaving this note, it might be useful.

I feel the same way. When we decide without measuring, we always end up in the same place.

Proven by experience.

I went through the same thing two years ago. Partnership isn't a decision to make without working together first.
