I bought a 40k TL 3D tomography device for my dental clinic — used it once in two months, wouldn't have bought it if I knew this from the start

i have a dental clinic in istanbul over 10 years. did 2D X-rays for 10 years, started thinking 'we should upgrade to a 3D device'. german device 40k TL, became 60k with financing interest. seller says: 'now take tomography for every patient raise prices, profit will increase.' I believed that.

i took 5-6 CT scans in the first month. but I learned that 90% of patients dont need a CT, 2D is enough. if I force them to get one, its not engineering, the patient runs away... right now the mchine runs once a month... im gonna pay installments for 5 years, the machine is basically useless.

there are some old-school dentists working in the clinic, when someone asks 'doc do we need a CT for this case' I say 'not right now' then but I do use it when needed. i mean demand is low I took the scan. if I knew this from the start... i want to talk about avoiding investments like this.

This is a classic industry problem. Solution: Tell the customer the 'real timeline'. Then keep your patience.

Data analysis: As demand increases, capacity often drops by 30-50%. That's your situation. You need to increase capacity.

The answer to this problem is simple: the door. Don't bother, just quit.

edit: fixed a few typos.

If customer satisfaction is a priority, you can find customers willing to pay a bit more. But you need patience.

Looking at it as a process the picture changes... anyway if you don't write this down from the start, it leads to arguments later.

This is my opinion I'm not claiming it's absolute truth.

Exactly, and not many people know this. If you get three different answers on a topic, the question was asked wrong.

Of course, it varies if your situation is different.

Let me summarize what's been said so far. Everything goes well for the first three months; problems arise in the fourth.

Of course, it varies if your situation is different.

I have no experience with dental clinic technology so I'm asking. If the gap between accounts receivable and accounts payable turnover days is widening, revenue won't save you.

I'm also curious if anyone does it differently.

I went through the same thing two years ago. When we decide without measuring, we always end up in the same place.

If you post the result here, it will help others too.

there's a part I don't understand. when the closure decision was made is as decisive as the decision itself.

just leaving this note, it mighht be useful.

There's a trap here, let me mention it. The moment you depend on a single client, you no longer set the price.

Hope this helps.

I completely agree. Extending terms makes customers happy but turns you into a financing institution.

Most time waste accumulates in tasks waiting for approval. If I were you, I'd go this route.
