People are now asking ChatGPT instead of Google — how can our site appear in ChatGPT responses?

Our Google traffic is slowly dropping, I read that young people on social media are asking ChatGPT instead. What should I do to get my site referenced more by ChatGPT?

If the rate of using ChatGPT instead of Google has increased, is the old SEO strategy starting to fail? Or will Google traffic remain important?

Short answer: Since AI models like ChatGPT pull training data from the internet, to include your site in this data: 1) Robots must crawl your site (normal SEO). 2) Submit your site to AI indexes like ChatGPT (future feature).

The result: Google traffic will remain the main channel at 70-80%, but AI chatbot traffic from ChatGPT/Claude etc. will rise to 5-15%. You need to optimize for both.

Getting AI references: 1) Write high-quality, original content. 2) Include statistics, research, case studies (AI loves this). 3) Add an author bio (who wrote it). 4) Get your site into trusted databases (Wikipedia, industry databases).

ChatGPT training data cutoff: Its knowledge ends at late 2024 + no internet access (Knowledge Cutoff). So posts you wrote in the last month might not appear in ChatGPT's response. But research sites prefer long-form content.

SEO vs AI search: SEO = focusing on ranking. AI search = focusing on sources reputation, novelty. They are different.

Initially, our site got zero traffic from ChatGPT. I mean then after we started writing 'original research' posts ChatGPT (and other AIs) started linking to our site in their responses. Traffic is low but trending up.

But it's not yet clear if ChatGPT will replace Google. Currently, Google is for news and academic research, ChatGPT is for quick facts. Focus on a dual channel, don't get attached to just one side.

if you want your site to show up in chatgpt searches, write original content and cite sources. don't write speculation data + experience = source. if you write like that chatgpt will also reference you.

Correct. People defend habits, not processes. Resistance comes from there.

That's all, sorry if I went on too long.

Here's how it went for us. Taking notes for two weeks yields better results than a six-month estimate.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

There's one point I'm curious about. Discussing numbers without verifying the measurement setup is a waste of time.

Any unwritten clause becomes a point of disagreement later, as both sides remember it differently. Just leaving this note, it might be useful.

Exactly, and not many people know this. A page with low traffic might be reaching the right people. Look at where sales come from.

If I were you, I'd go this route.

Let me speak from the other side; I'm on the supplier side. The harder it is to reverse a decision the slower you should make it.

Good luck with that.

I went through the same thing two years ago. Everyone rushing into appearing in ChatGPT searches gets stuck at the same point.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

Let me share my experience. Speed is a threshold issue; if you're already fast, making it faster changes nothing.

This is my opinion, I'm not claiming it's absolute truth.

Great work. Just because everyone does it doesn't mean it's right.

The answer varies greatly by industry; there is no one-size-fits-all rule.

my question might sound amateurish sorry about that and anyway if rankings stay the same but clicks drop the issue isn't your page, but the search result appearance.

of course it varies if your situation is different.

If you're going this route, sort this out first. Map listings bring more business than blog posts for most local businesses.

This is my opinion, I'm not claiming it's absolute truth.

Three different views emerged, they all complement each other. A page that answers one question works better than one touching on five topics.

Any comment made without a control group is just a guess. I'm also curious if anyone does it differently.
