I started selling boutique clothes online but the return rate is high — am I just not knowing what customers don't want?

i sell boutique clothes in istanbul, i have a physical store. opened online 3 months ago, first month 15 orders, 8 returns. they probably didn't understand the selection, returned saying 'it wasn't what i expected'. but no such issue in physical store, people try them on.

so my question is: for online clothing sales, is it photo quality, size chart, or text description that's missing? or are customers returning because they can't make a choice? i added that video 'try on the outfit to see' but still getting returns. what should i do?

Legally, you should have a written contract with the customer in this case. Terms must be clear. Recommendation: lawyer.

This is a classic industry problem. Solution: Tell the customer the 'real date'. Then stay patient.

Data analysis: As demand increases, capacity usually drops by 30-50%. That's your situation. You need to increase capacity.

Urgent: stop the job, replan, start. Do a 3-week pilot, then decide.

We got stuck at the same point for a while. The harder it is to reverse a decision, the slower you should make it.

Do you think this works at any scale? Calculate this based on total annual cost, not the monthly bill.

If you post the result here, it will help others too.

Saved. Hasty decisions become decisions you have to fix six months later.

Good luck with that.

Three different views emerged, they all complement each other. Start with a small trial; don't commit to everything at once.

Hope this helps.

The most overlooked point about boutique online store is this: Solutions that work at a small scale collapse when you grow; I learned this late.

Just because everyone does it doesn't mean it's right. Proven by experience.

The answer above hits the nail on the head. People defend habits, not processes. Resistance comes from there.

Hope this helps.

Heres how it went for us. Look where the bucket leaks; pouring water on top doesnt solve it.

Splitting your budget without knowing where you're losing users is just throwing money in the dark. If you post the result here it will help others too.
