Is it still worth blogging? ChatGPT vs humans, what's the ROI in months for spending money on posts?

We're thinking of opening a blog on our commercial site. When I started the company, they said 'blog traffic drives sales' but I have doubts. With ChatGPT, anyone can write posts without spending money — in this case, doesn't the money we spend on blog posts (2-3 posts a month) fail to provide ROI?

Plus: what's Google's new ruling on their AI-generated content policy? if i write an AI post and make it look natural, does that count as spam? or is 'AI + human edit' acceptable?

as a blogger, wouldn't it be more effective to spend money on other marketing channels (ads, email, social) instead of an unprofitable blog?

is it worth writing a blog? yes, but there are conditions. ROI starts after 6-9 months and becomes obvious by month 12. so it's a long game.

ChatGPT + human edit model: Google accepts it, but not 'ChatGPT only'. if you're generating posts: AI generates > human edits > publish. so 'AI generated and published' is OK, but 'AI wrote it and published it immediately' is spam.

money comparison: ads = instant but expensive, blog = slow but long-term. ideal: use both. ads for short-term sales, blog for long-term traffic + authority.

suggestion: write 2 posts consistently per month, watch for 6 months. if even 1% of traffic converts to sales, keep writing. increase post count and build an economic model.

we started using AI for writing too but kept the blogger. AI writes the article, blogger reviews, fixes parts adds sources, then its published. anyway even though the process time dropped by 3-4 hours quality remains. costs dropped by 40%.

let me tell you about ROI: first 3 months article + publish = 50 euros. tbh traffic started coming in the 4th month. by the 12th month, 15% of the posts i talked about led to sales. so 100 euros invested, 150 euros returned. the key is just quality.

but nowadays ChatGPT can write any post, some fields are saturated. if you open a tech blog, there are already thousands of chatgpt posts. will it get picked up? wouldn't it be better to open a niche blog?

the goal of a blog isn't to find traffic, it's to build authority. traffic is a side effect. for example, if you write blog posts about 'best consultants', Google will see you as an 'authority'. as posts increase, other websites will link to you (natural backlinks). then rankings go up.

ROI calculation: 'average lifespan of a post is 2-3 years. if each post brings 10-50 traffic monthly, that's 120-600 traffic yearly. if that traffic quality is high (intent) you get 1-5 conversions. if the sale price is 1000 euros profit...' mathematical result: write.

we also do the ai writing + edit model... google hasnt caused any issues so far... but some articles have no ranking some are in the top 3. so its about quality not ai.

think about your posts bringing thousands of traffic 2-3 years later, with no extra cost. an ad campaign stops when you stop it. write a blog for the long term.

thanks this was very helpful but a page that answers one question works better than one touching on five topics.

We need to take it step by step. I mean map listings bring more business than blog posts for most local businesses.

Most time waste accumulates in tasks waiting for approval. anyway i'm also curious if anyone does it differently.

There's one point I'm curious about. If it's your first time, start small; scaling comes later.

Trying to do this alone is the most expensive way. This is my opinion, I'm not claiming it's absolute truth.

Three different views emerged, they all complement each other. Internal linking is the cheapest and most neglected task.

My perspective changed after experiencing that. Everyone rushing into is it worth blogging gets stuck at the same point.

Good luck with that.

Let me write how it's done in practice. Hasty decisions become decisions you have to fix six months later.

If you get three different answers on a topic, the question was asked wrong.

I disagree with you on this point. Map listings bring more business than blog posts for most local businesses.

If you don't write this down from the start, it leads to arguments later.

i went through the same thing two years ago. tbh if you get three different answers on a topic the question was asked wrong.

if you post the result here, it will help others too.

This is exactly what we experienced. Everyone rushing into is it worth blogging gets stuck at the same point.

Just leaving this note, it might be useful.

Quick summary for newcomers: Taking notes for two weeks yields better results than a six-month estimate.

That's all sorry if I went on too long.

I agree, and I'd like to emphasize that. A page with low traffic might be reaching the right people. Look at where sales come from.

I'm also curious if anyone does it differently.
