I'm a fisherman, I had my boat repaired for 200k TL when the season started — I earned 250k in 3 months, was it worth it?

i'm a fisherman in the black sea. i've been a boatman for 20 years. before the season started (may) my boat was in terrible shape engine blowing up nets worn out. i spent 200k, got the boat repaired. in the first 3 months of the season (may-july) i earned 250k.

do the math: 250-200 = 50k net profit. but there's debt repayment for the other 9 months (200 TL 16 TL a month). so is it a net success or debt? was the 50k profit from the repair worth it in 3 months?

You can't solve problems with words. Go, do it, fail, learn. That's the way.

Procedure: First, create a written policy. Get the customer to sign it. Then enforce it.

Standard method: Set a 'standard time' for each job, write it down for the customer. Follow up.

Data analysis: As demand rises, capacity usually drops by 30-50%. That's your situation. You need to increase capacity.

Start with this structure: agree with the customer on 'how I'll do it', then do it. Success.

I agree. When the closure decision was made is as decisive as the decision itself.

Of course, it varies if your situation is different.

Generally correct but one part is missing. The reason for failure isn't one big mistake, but the accumulation of small decisions.

Correct in theory, but it doesn't work that way in practice. Hasty decisions become decisions you have to fix six months later.

Proven by experience.

Let me summarize the topic, since several different answers were given. Any unwritten clause becomes a point of disagreement later, as both sides remember it differently.

If I were you, I'd go this route.

Let me share my experience. Looking profitable on paper but having no cash in the bank is very common.

Just a heads-up. Pausing growth to breathe is also a strategy nobody says that.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

We've heard this a lot, but it never happened like that for us. If it's your first time, start small; scaling comes later.

Taking notes for two weeks yields better results than a six-month estimate. Correct me if I'm wrong.
