i set up google analytics but don't know if the data is correct, how do i check for setup errors?

basic ga4 setup checklist: 1) is the tracking code on the page? (global site tag). 2) correct property id? 3) is real-time traffic showing? 4) is the spam bot filter on? 5) if you have cross-domain tracking, is it correct? 6) if you use utm parameters, are they written correctly?

About bot traffic: GA4 does automatic bot filtering, but it's not 100%. It filters big bots but might miss some small ones. Plus, you can exclude bot traffic at the view level (admin panel > settings).

I messed up the initial setup in our Analytics 4 — the view ID was typed wrong, so we lost 2 weeks of data. Then I updated it later, and the data started coming through correctly.

Conversion tracking: we set 'form submit' as a conversion (email sign-up). Then we forgot to set up the sales tracker, and I only remembered 6 months later... Set it up from the start, so you won't regret it later.

GA4 Real-time report: Go directly to the site, open Real-time in the property, and check if you can see yourself. If you can't, the tracking code is missing or broken. Check the Dev Tools console for errors.

Set up conversions as custom events: For an e-commerce site, track the 'purchase' event and send price and item_id in the params. Then mark it as a 'Conversion' in GA4 reporting.

Analytics setup is complicated but if you install the Tag Assistant extension, it spots the issues and shows you how to fix them. honestly check the real-time report; if you can see yourself, the setup is correct.

Analytics: I installed it data is coming in, but which one should I trust? It's always like this at the beginning. Opening real-time and seeing yourself — that's the start of analytics training. Is the data correct > check property ID > done.
