We're switching agencies — how do we transfer all data (analytics, backlink profile, etc.) to the new agency? What data do we have the right to request?

Our contract with the agency ended. We want to switch to a new agency. We told the old agency: 'give us all the SEO data'. Agency: 'which data?'

What are our rights? Google Analytics access? Search Console? Backlink report? All files (code, designs)?

Client rights during agency change: 1) Google Analytics access (as principal owner). 2) Google Search Console access. 3) Backlink data (exported as a report). 4) All software/design files (source code, PSD). 5) Website data (database, content files).

Legal situation: if you paid for it, the data is your property. The agency only has a 'manager' role. But if there's no control, the client can demand access rights.

I wanted to switch agencies too, they didnt hand over the data. I consulted a lawyer the agency forced to give it. Most important: right to transfer ownership of Analytics and Search Console.

analytics and search console should be yours. if the agency made themselves owner have them transfer it. if the software code is custom ask for a disk copy.

Is there a 'data transfer' clause written in the contract? Or is it just a verbal promise? It's important to check if it's written because it makes a difference legally.

Defending your right to data transfer: 1) Send a written request to the agency (list everything). 2) Set a reasonable timeline (1 week). 3) If they don't provide it send a legal warning via email. 4) Still no? Get a lawyer. 5) After legal enforcement, the data gets transferred.

The cheap-looking path usually ends up costing more later. When you try to change everything at once, nothing settles.

I'm also curious if anyone does it differently.

Let me write how it's done in practice. When making a decision, first look at what data you have on hand.

People defend habits, not processes. Resistance comes from there. Hope this helps.

let me speak from the other side; I'm on the supplier side. people defend habits, not processes. like resistance comes from there.

There is something to watch out for. The real issue isn't the number, but what it's based on.

I'm also curious if anyone does it differently.

my questiions are cleared up, thanks. i mean access credentials should be opened in the company's name, not personal accounts.

when we decide without measuring, we always end up in the same place. if you post the result here it will help others too.

Exactly like that. Start with a small trial; don't commit to everything at once.

If you have questions, write them; I'll answer as best I can.

Do you think this works at any scale? Trying to do this alone is the most expensive way.

If you get three different answers on a topic, the question was asked wrong. Good luck with that.

You're right. Ask who prepared the quote and who will actually do the work.

There's a common mistake people make when doing this. When you try to change everything at once nothing settles.

I'm also curious if anyone does it differently.

Exactly and not many people know this. honestly most time waste accumulates in tasks waiting for approval.

If scope grows, either time or budget must grow... There is no third option... This is my opinion, I'm not claiming it's absolute truth.
