People keep talking about Local SEO but we only have one location — what does it really mean for us?

We are a dental clinic with 6 dentists operating from a single location in Bornova, İzmir. The agencies we've consulted to grow our patient base digitally keep insisting that we must do local SEO, arguing that generic search optimization won't yield results at our scale. They are proposing packages around 18,000 TL per month.

Their proposed action plan includes Google Maps optimization, local directory listings, creating separate landing pages for each neighboring district (like Karşıyaka dental implants, Bayraklı braces, etc.), and managing patient reviews. However, churning out dozens of artificial landing pages for areas outside Bornova where we have zero physical presence feels dishonest and like an attempt to game the search engines.

What exactly is local SEO for a local business with a single clinic, and which initiatives actually generate appointments versus those that are just a waste of money?

Short answer: Local SEO is the localized optimization process that gets your business in front of people actively looking for services in a specific geographic area across search queries and map packs. For single-location businesses, it is vastly more cost-effective than traditional SEO because users searching for healthcare or on-site services naturally pick the closest most reputable provider.

As a single-location clinic managing a budget, there are very clear boundaries you should focus on. The core of your investment must center on perfecting your Google Business Profile, choosing the right primary and secondary medical categories, and consistently acquiring genuine patient reviews. People evaluate the top 3 clinics in the map pack, look through the photos, and read doctor responses. Ranking in the map pack generates far more direct phone calls and driving directions than your website's organic search rank ever will.

On the flip side, the agency's tactic of building dozens of landing pages for neighboring districts is mostly obsolete and risky today. If you don't have a physical signpost outside Bornova, search engines will treat those pages as low-quality doorway pages. Instead of spending your budget on ghost district pages, you should focus on creating in-depth content for the specialized treatments you offer and strengthening your clinic's local brand presence.

The era of building landing pages for nearby districts where you have no physical address is pretty much over. Search engines instantly match the user's device location with the business's actual physical coordinates now. Invest your money in real clinic photos and doctor profile pages instead of imaginary district pages.

Two years ago we paid 12,000 TL a month for generic blog content for our single-branch vet clinic in Antalya; most of the incoming traffic came from other cities. Then we shifted our entire budget to map optimization and our review collection workflow. Website traffic dropped, but patient bookings walking through our door tripled.

Before locking yourself into 18,000 TL with an agency, try this: Send a direct Google review link via WhatsApp to every patient who finishes their treatment happy. Once your review count and rating go up, your map rankings will naturally climb on their own.

Watch out for that local directory listing line item. Agencies usually just submit your business details to 15-year-old spammy directory sites that nobody visits and report it as deliverable work. Those directories contribute practically nothing to your site or your map rankings.

personally, when I'm looking for a dentist I just search on Google and check out the top 3 highest-rated clinics on Maps. i read the reviews judge how clean the place is from the photos and give them a call. nobody reads a long article further down the search results to book an appointment—visibility on Maps is everything.

for our auto repair shop they told us to build pages for each district but we passed. we just focused on maps targeting our industrial park and nearby neighborhoods. phone calls went up big time in two weeks district pgaes are total trash tbh.

A clear to-do list for a single location: 1) Completely fill out working hours, emergency info, and specialties on your Google profile, 2) Keep treatment-specific photos and doctor bios up to date, 3) Gather genuine patient reviews that mention specific treatments, 4) Add local business structured data markup to the website.

Healthcare institutions are legally obligated to comply with current health regulations and information disclosure rules in their local optimization efforts. Any phrasing that creates misleading demand or borders on covert advertising for medical procedures must be meticulously avoided, both on map profiles and on websites.

How did you solve this? Updating an existing page yields faster results than creating a new one.

Quick summary for newcomers: Discussing numbers without verifying the measurement setup is a waste of time.

If you post the result here, it will help others too.

I feel the same way. Merge instead of deleting; deleted content doesn't come back.

Good luck with that.

thanks a lot I'll try it today. a page that answers one question works better than one touching on five topics.

if you don't write this down from the start, it leads to arguments later and that's all, sorry if I went on too long.
