Added my business to Google Maps using my home address — should I switch to a commercial one?

we set up a consulting and digital marketing agency in Dubai under a free zone license and since our license uses a flexi-desk virtual office setup, when adding our place to Google Maps I initially used the home address I rent over in Jumeirah Village Circle. the business profile was verified without a postal code 2 months ago and started showing up in local searches.

the problem is my full address is now publicly visible on the map; last week a walk-in lead literally showed up at my front door without an appointment. btw it put us in an awful spot both for personal privacy and looking professional. on top of that word is Google has been cracking down hard on residential addresses lately and handing out suspensions.

we're a two-partner setup pulling in about 12.000 AED a month. how do we transition this profile over to a commercial address or a service-area model without tanking our rankings and inbound leads? anyway does changing the address trrigger the whole verification process all over again?

Short answer: Leaving a residential address publicly visible puts your profile at serious risk of an immediate suspension. Without deleting the profile, you can either hide the street address in your dashboard and switch to a service-area model, or, if you've leased an actual commercial office, update the address to handle this safely.

Google Business Profile guidelines strictly forbid showing a map pin at residential addresses where you don't welcome walk-in customers and don't have permanent signage. First, clear out the street address line in your dashboard and select the emirates or zones you serve. That drops the map pin, but your profile still shows up in searches across Dubai.

If you want to move to a physical office provided by the free zone, make sure permanent signage is mounted outside, and have your lease agreement and utility bills under the company name ready before updating the address. Google almost always demands video verification on address changes now; you'll need to do an uncut continuous recording showing the street view, your office door, and the interior workspace.

Switching to a hidden-address service area might cause a minor ranking dip for the first couple of weeks, but your profile history and reviews stay intact. Converting the existing listing is always safer than starting from scratch with a brand-new profile.

Free zone and virtual office addresses are under the heaviest Google scrutiny across the UAE. If you keep the home address up, one competitor complaint and your listing is toast. Reinstatement appeals will drag you through weeks of paperwork hell, hide it right now.

What you need to do today is simple: log into the dashboard edit the address section and check the box saying you don't serve customers at your business address. Add your service areas like Dubai and Sharjah. The pin vanishes nobody knocks on your door, and your profile stays active without getting suspended.

We updated our address over in Business Bay. Profile got suspended the very same day, asked for video verification. We submitted a video showing our office signage, the lease, and the entrance, and it was back up within 48 hours. But it took a full 22 days for our rankings to recover.

Think twice before adding that shared free zone virtual office address. Hundreds of businesses share the exact same PO Box and building, so Google flags those locations automatically. Entering a virtual office address can trigger a ban way faster than a home address ever would.

happened to us too we literally had couriers showing up at our apartment door. hid the address and set it to service area only, leads dropped a tiny bit but at least our home location isn't out there for the whole internet to see. like imo switch it to a service area asap.

What exact address is printed on your trade license? If you don't have a dedicated private room or an approved spot to hang a physical sign inside the free zone business center, how are you planning to clear the video verification Google will inevitably ask for when switching to a commercial address?

In accordance with Google's local business guidelines, locations that do not offer in-person customer service are not eligible to display a public map pin. To avoid potential suspensions and commercial disruption, restructuring the listing under a service-area business model is strongly advised.

Whatever you do, don't make the mistake of deleting the profile and starting fresh. Your existing reviews and account age are pure gold. Hide the address first to stay safe, and once you get an actual physical office later on, you can deal with the video verification properly.

Ill argue the opposite, dont get mad. When you try to change everything at once, nothing settles.

Good luck with that.

let's separate the concepts they're getting mixed up. a competitor's ranking might come from years of accumulation not just their content.

just leavng this note, it might be useful.

Great work. If you get three different answers on a topic, the question was asked wrong.

yes thats exactly how it is with adding a place to Google Maps. anyway discussing numbers without verifying the measurement setp is a waste of time.

this is my opnion I'm not claiming it's absolute truth.
