I work on-site at clients' places and don't have a shop, can I create a Google Business Profile without showing an address?

i provide mobile electrical troubleshooting wiring and panel installation services across Paris and its suburbs then anyway i don't have a physical shop or commercial office for customers to visit. i run my operations directly out of my service van, bringing all the materials to the customer's home or construction site.

i want to appear on Maps to grow my business but I really don't want to broadcast my home address with a public pin on the map where my family lives. some local tradesmen around me say that if you don't show an address you won't show up on Maps at all, and if you try to show it and then hide it your account will get banned right away.

is it technically possible to set up a business profile by hiding the physical address and only defining the areas I serve? what rules do I need to follow to avoid getting suspended and prevent my listing from getting buried in local search results?

Short answer: Yes, you can set up a "Service Area Business" profile without a physical shop by hiding your address; this method is completely compliant with Google guidelines, and your home address will never be visible to the public. You provide your home address to Google solely for verification, but you disable the address display in the dashboard and specify only your service areas instead.

When asked for your business type during setup, choose the "Service Area Business" option. Google will still require a physical mailing address during registration for legal verification; enter your home or registered company address here. Once the profile is verified, go to the "Business Location" section and toggle off the option to show the location to customers.

A critical rule here is not to go overboard with your service areas. Listing dozens of cities you can't reasonably reach in your van will trigger a suspension. The rule of thumb is to pick a maximum of 20 postal codes or districts within at most a 2-hour drive from your home base. Avoid adding distant suburbs where you don't actually do work.

Lastly, never try to list a virtual office, a PO box (boîte postale), or a coworking space as a physical storefront on Maps. Google automatically flags these setups and bans the profiles permanently. As long as you define your service area realistically and keep your official business registration documents handy, you won't run into any issues.

Don't listen to what those guys are saying, about eighty percent of mobile plumbers and sparkies have their address hidden. The main thing is being able to show your toolbag, branded van, and invoices if they ask for a video verification.

When your address is hidden, you don't get a red pin on the map; instead, it shows a highlighted coverage boundary outlining your service area. You will still rank in search results, but the searcher's physical proximity is calculated relative to your hidden base location.

I run a mobile tyre fitting service around Strasbourg with a hidden address just like this. I have 8 postal codes set up. I get about 45 calls a month, and we consistently show up in the top three map pack right under competitors with physical shops.

You will show up, but if a competitor with a brick-and-mortar storefront and clear signage is located right in the center of the district you targeted, the local map algorithm usually prioritizes the physical location. Just keep your expectations realistic on that front.

Follow these steps during setup: 1) Select a business category fitting mobile services, 2) Enter your verification address and complete the postcard or video verification, 3) Remove the public address via the admin panel, 4) Add a maximum of 10-15 specific postal codes.

hiding your home address is a must, otherwise you'll deal with customers knocking on your door on sunday morning looking for parts. service area profile works like a charm don't worry about it.

Under Section 4 of the Google Business Profile Guidelines, businesses that do not serve customers at their physical address and instead provide on-site services are required, not just advised, to hide their address. Failing to do so will result in a suspension for misrepresenting a physical storefront.

Correct. A page with low traffic might be reaching the right people. Look at where sales come from.

Of course it varies if your situation is different.

I disagree with you on this point. The real issue isn't the number, but what it's based on.

Just leaving this note, it might be useful.

We experienced almost the exact same thing last year. Just because everyone does it doesn't mean it's right.

There is something to watch out for. Internal linking is the cheapest and most neglected task.

Of course, it varies if your situation is different.

Good call starting this thread. Everything goes well for the first three months; problems arise in the fourth.

Proven by experience.

There are three things to check when doing this. tbh if it's your first time, start small; scaling comes later.

Hope this helps.

I disagree with you on this point. When you try to change everything at once nothing settles.

A page with low traffic might be reaching the right people. Look at where sales come from. Good luck with that.

I'm curious too. anyway updating an existing page yields faster results than creating a new one.

Any comment made without a control group is just a guess. I mean if you post the result here, it will help others too.

My perspective changed after experiencing that. When making decisions, write down the worst-case scenario too, not just the best.
