Running Google Ads but the budget is draining with zero orders, where am I going wrong?

We have a small e-commerce site and showroom in Dubai selling custom-designed office furniture and ergonomic desk chairs. Instead of hiring a digital marketing agency, I wanted to learn it myself and have been running Google Ads for the past month. I set aside an 8,000 AED monthly budget and spend around 260 AED a day.

Our search campaign gets clicks regularly, with CPC hovering between 4 and 9 AED. We get 40-50 visitors on our site every day, but at the end of 30 days, we've only managed 2 orders and 3 form submissions total. The budget is pretty much entirely gone.

I used broad match in the campaign and went with the smart bidding strategy recommended by Google. I placed the conversion tracking code on the home page. Why are orders so low, and should I pause the budget to fix things?

Short answer: The main reason your ad spend isn't translating into orders is that you're paying for irrelevant searches due to broad match and you've completely misled the algorithm by dropping the conversion tag on the homepage. You need to pause the campaign, tighten your keyword match types build a negative keyword list, and move the tracking code to the thank-you page.

First, fix your conversion tracking. When you place the conversion tag on the homepage, every single person who clicks onto your site counts as a conversion. This tricks the Google Ads algorithm into funneling your budget toward cheap traffic that just bounces immediately, rather than users with actual buying intent. Move the code exclusively to the order confirmation or form thank-you page and test the trigger via Tag Manager.

Second, restructure your keywords. Using broad match means people searching for furniture repair, used desk chairs or free office design will click your ads. Switch your keywords over to phrase match or exact match. Dive into your Search Terms report and add every irrelevant query as a negative keyword.

Finally, do not use smart bidding strategies until you have at least 30-40 verified conversions in your account. Stick to Maximize Clicks or Manual CPC for the first few hundred clicks to gather clean data then switch over to Target CPA.

Go check the 'Search Terms' tab in your dashboard right now. Don't look at the keywords you picked, look at what people actually typed before clicking. Once you see terms like used, rental, repair, or free in there, you'll immediately see where all your money went.

putting the conversion tag on the homepage completely blinded the system tbh. the algo thinks literally everyone is a buyer and just floods you with random junk clicks. btw move that snippet to the order confirmation page asap or the ai will never learn.

In the Dubai market, the average conversion rate for high-ticket items like office furniture is between 1% and 2%. Across the roughly 1,300 clicks you received over 30 days, 5 total actions (sales + leads) comes out to a dismal 0.4%. The problem is 100% your traffic quality.

Immediate action plan you should execute right away: 1) Pause the campaign and add negatives from the search terms report. 2) Place the conversion tag strictly on the purchase/form confirmation page. 3) Switch the bidding model to 'Manual CPC'. 4) Use high-intent phrasing in your ad copy like 'commercial grade' or 'showroom pickup available'.

Smart bidding algorithms can't work without at least 30 meaningful conversion data points in the last 30 days. Because you set the homepage as a conversion, the algorithm optimized for bots and low-quality users who bounce immediately. You need to reset the data pool.

If you follow Google's "recommended settings" to the letter, Google wins and you just watch. Getting you to turn on broad match and smart bidding from day one is their way of generating automated revenue. Never leave control at the mercy of the system.

I'd also suggest checking your mobile responsiveness and showroom location. People buying office furniture in Dubai usually want a quote or catalog right away via WhatsApp. Adding a visible direct contact button to your site will let you collect warm leads even if you don't get direct orders.

Absolutely. If I were to add anything: A page that answers one question works better than one touching on five topics.

Any comment made without a control group is just a guess. Of course, it varies if your situation is different.

Let me summarize what's been said so far. Merge instead of deleting; deleted content doesn't come back.

I'm also curious if anyone does it differently.

Let me clarify the technical side. Any comment made without a control group is just a guess.

The answer varies greatly by industry; there is no one-size-fits-all rule. Of course, it varies if your situation is different.

I feel the same way. Everyone rushing into google ads gets stuck at the same point.

Any comment made without a control group is just a guess. Correct me if Im wrong.

Could you elaborate on that? A page that answers one question works better than one touching on five topics.

Merge instead of deleting; deleted content doesn't come back. This is my opinion, I'm not claiming it's absolute truth.

Here's how it went for us. Taking notes for two weeks yields better results than a six-month estimate.

Just leaving this note, it might be useful.

Don't miss this: Everything goes well for the first three months; problems arise in the fourth.

Map listings bring more business than blog posts for most local businesses.

Let me summarize what's been said so far. If rankings stay the same but clicks drop, the issue isn't your page, but the search result appearance.

If I were you, I'd go this route.

I'm in the same situation that's why I'm asking. Speed is a threshold issue; if you're already fast, making it faster changes nothing.

If you have questions write them; I'll answer as best I can.

Good call starting this thread. Hasty decisions become decisions you have to fix six months later.

That's all, sorry if I went on too long.
