Got a free Google SEO audit — are the "urgent" items in the report actually urgent?

We've been running an e-commerce site selling handmade solid wood furniture for three years. Our monthly organic traffic hovers around 10,000 visitors, and nearly half of our sales come through these searches. Last week, a digital agency put together a free Google SEO audit for our site and sent it over.

When I opened the report, I saw over 40 errors highlighted with bright red warning flags. Missing H1 tags, missing meta descriptions on some category pages, 301 redirect chains, and server response times were listed right at the top. They're claiming that if we don't sign a 25,000 TL monthly retainer immediately, we'll get wiped from search results. Are the items in this audit genuinely urgent enough to tank my site's rankings, or is this just a sales tactic using automated tool dumps?

Short answer: The vast majority of technical issues flagged with red alerts in free SEO audits won't suddenly tank your search rankings; these reports are classic sales tactics designed to induce panic by blowing automated crawler outputs out of proportion. You need to distinguish between structural roadblocks that can actually cut off traffic and routine optimization tasks that can be addressed over time.

Automated crawlers report every minor inconsistency on your site as a critical error. For instance, missing meta descriptions on a few pages won't get you wiped from search results; in those cases, Google simply pulls whatever sentence it deems most relevant from your page content into the snippet. Likewise, missing H1 tags on a couple of pages or redirect chains won't trigger an immediate ranking collapse. These are general site hygiene tasks to tackle whenever you have the time.

Issues that should genuinely be treated as urgent include: 1) Essential products dropping out of the search index due to accidental noindex tags in robots.txt or page headers, 2) Persistent 500-level server errors hitting visitors and crawlers alike, 3) Painfully slow server response times that hold up page loads for minutes. If you aren't dealing with structural bottlenecks like these, take a calm look at your own Google Search Console data before signing off on panic-driven proposals for 25,000 TL a month.

They literally plugged your URL into a crawling tool, downloaded a PDF with one click, slapped their own logo on it, and are now trying to bill you 25,000 TL. Classic fear-based marketing, don't take it seriously.

What matters isn't some made-up score from a third-party crawler, it's your actual indexation status in Google Search Console. If a page shows as 'Indexed' and brings in traffic, you won't lose rank just because it lacks a meta description. Google will pull a snippet straight from the page content anyway.

Dump those 40 items into a spreadsheet. You can easily fill in the meta titles and H1 tags yourself through your e-commerce platform's admin panel by setting aside an hour or two a week. As for server response time reach out to your web host and ask them to configure caching, and it won't cost you a dime.

Our site has 5,000 products, 1,200 of which don't have meta descriptions, plus hundreds of 301 redirects. Despite that, our organic traffic tripled over the past year. What drives rankings isn't these micro-flaws, it's having unique product descriptions and keeping users engaged on the page.

Have you checked your Search Console dashboard? Did the number of de-indexed pages spike over the last three months, or has there been a sudden drop in clicks? If your traffic graph is flat or trending upward, there's no urgent crisis here.

thought everyone knew this trick by now. btw classic formula to scare business owners with red charts and sell monthly retainers. nothing to panic about.

Bottom line: The items in the report are good improvements to make, but they are far from urgent disaster scenarios. As long as your traffic is steady and there are no indexing blockers, there's no reason to sign into an expensive panic contract.

If you're going this route, sort this out first. If you don't write this down from the start, it leads to arguments later.

If you have questions, write them; I'll answer as best I can.

I feel the same way. tbh taking notes for two weeks yields better results than a six-month estimate.

Thats all sorry if I went on too long.

How did you solve this? Merge instead of deleting; deleted content doesn't come back.

Hasty decisions become decisions you have to fix six months later. Proven by experience.

Thanks for posting. The real issue isn't the number, but what it's based on.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

Don't miss this: People defend habits not processes. Resistance comes from there.

Everything goes well for the first three months; problems arise in the fourth. If I were you I'd go this route.

I'd appreciate it if you shared the outcome. Any unwritten clause becomes a point of disagreement later, as both sides remember it differently.

A page that answers one question works better than one touching on five topics. If you post the result here, it will help others too.

The opposite happened to me, that's why I'm writing. Ranking is the result, search intent is the input. Look at intent first.

If I were you, I'd go this route.

We need to make a distinction here. If you don't write this down from the start, it leads to arguments later.

I think it's hard to be that definitive about google seo audit. If you don't write this down from the start, it leads to arguments later.

Of course it varies if your situation is different.

I'll argue the opposite don't get mad. Start with a small trial; don't commit to everything at once.

Any comment made without a control group is just a guess. If I were you I'd go this route.
