We run a small business in Chicago specializing in commercial kitchen equipment spare parts and consulting. Our six-year-old site has become very sluggish and doesn't display properly on mobile devices. We talked to two local web agencies: one quoted 8,500 dollars and the other quoted 12,000 dollars for a complete redesign and content overhaul. Spending that kind of money right now would seriously hurt our cash flow.

Were wondering if we can handle this revamp in-house using the trendy AI tools for web design and code generation... Would it work if we generate the copy, core page layouts, and visuals with these tools and set it all up on WordPress?

Our current site gets around 4,000 unique organic visitors a month, and half of our quote requests come from that traffic. anyway has anyone successfully rebuilt a site with AI, or would we be exposing ourselves to major SEO risks we arent aware of?

Short answer: AI tools excel at drafting website copy, generating image variations, and creating basic page wireframes. However, they cannot set up the URL redirects needed to preserve your existing organic traffic, correctly configure custom database setups, or guarantee search engine visibility on their own.

Having 4,000 organic visitors puts this project in a totally different league than building a site from scratch. AI tools don't understand your current URL structure, which pages rank, or your internal linking hierarchy. If you revamp the site yourself, change URLs, and miss 301 redirects, you'll lose the bulk of that traffic and lead volume within weeks.

You'll get the best results with a hybrid model: use AI to draft layouts, write product descriptions, and produce industry blog posts, which drastically reduces content costs. Leave the SEO architecture, technical redirect mapping, and mobile performance optimization to an experienced specialist.

Instead of hiring an agency, bring in a freelance senior technical SEO specialist and a web developer to safely deploy the AI-generated templates. This lets you complete the redesign without risking your traffic for roughly 1,500 - 2,500 dollars instead of an 8,500-dollar agency bill.

The biggest issue with AI-generated code is bloat—excessive DOM elements and messy piles of meaningless CSS. If your page speed drops on mobile, your Google rankings will tank right alongside it. Because they don't produce clean semantic HTML, screen readers and search bots often struggle to crawl the pages properly.

We tried something similar last year to dodge a 6,000-dollar quote and redesigned our site using an AI page builder. The result: our organic traffic plummeted from 5,500 down to 1,200 in 3 months. We ended up having to pay an outside consultant 3,800 dollars just to fix broken redirects and recover rankings. Not to mention all the wasted time.

Building a site with AI sounds great on paper, but everyone uses the same templates, leaving you with a completely generic result. In a B2B field like commercial kitchens where trust is paramount, prospective clients will spot that cookie-cutter look immediately and hesitate to submit a quote request.

If budget is tight right now, don't entrust a complete redesign to AI. Map out your existing URL structure, fix just the mobile layout on your landing page and quote form, and postpone a full rebuild until you have more financial breathing room.

If you're going to tackle this on your own, definitely do not leave these three things to AI: 1) Identifying your top-traffic pages via Google Search Console and mapping URLs, 2) Flawlessly integrating the B2B quote form into your CRM or email infrastructure, 3) Testing whether conversion pixels and analytics tags tracking form submissions are firing properly.

We went through the exact same thing agency prices really feel outrageous. We had AI handle the visuals and product copy, then paid a developer friend 1,000 dollars to get the template properly set up. like as long as you dont leave everything to a bot from scratch its a pretty reasonable way to save money.

agencies overcharge sometimes but 4k organic visitors is nothing to scoff at. I mean if half that traffic is turning into clients i'd think twice before messing with the site's backbone, don't shoot yourself in the foot.

Which pages exactly are your current 4,000 visitors landing on? Is the traffic going to the homepage, or is it flowing into old blog posts and spare part product details? If the incoming traffic is concentrated on just 3-4 key pages, optimizing only those pages might be a much more sensible approach.

I went through the same thing two years ago. The harder it is to reverse a decision, the slower you should make it.

I went through the same thing. btw start with a small trial; don't commit to everything at once.

If it's your first time start small; scaling comes later... Hope this helps.

I think differently. When you try to change everything at once, nothing settles.

Mistakes made on the website redesign artificial intelligence side are usually reversible but expensive.

Let's separate the concepts, they're getting mixed up. Ask who prepared the quote and who will actually do the work.

Hope this helps.

I'm in the same situation, that's why I'm asking. Most time waste accumulates in tasks waiting for approval.

I'm a small business, let me explain from my side. If you don't write this down from the start, it leads to arguments later.

Just leaving this note it might be useful.

Thanks, this was very helpful. Code without setup documentation isn't yours, even if you have it.

This is my opinion, I'm not claiming it's absolute truth.

I'd say don't rush. Just because everyone does it doesn't mean it's right.

The system lives on after delivery; maintenance is a separate line item. That's all, sorry if I went on too long.

Three different views emerged, they all complement each other. Any unwritten clause becomes a point of disagreement later, as both sides remember it differently.

If you have questions, write them; I'll answer as best I can.
