An employee at your dental clinic got an SMS about a courier — saying they couldn't deliver the address, asking for info without clicking the link. Luckily, our patient consulted me and I got suspicious.

We didn't click the link, did we make the right call? Even if it says courier, is it fake?

Clinic staff and patients should be made aware of this, what plan can we make?

Yes you made a very good decision. Courier SMS scams are a common attack. Fakes mimic courier company names (DHL UPS etc) and ask for personal info when you click the link.

Real check: Don't click on courier SMS links. Call the courier company's official number, mention the delivery. If there's really a carrier you'll find out.

Clinic awareness: Put up a poster saying 'don't click unknown links' for patients and staff. Share health/security tips once a month.

note: I wrote this based on my own experience, it might not apply to everyone.

Protection steps: 1. Don't click SMS links 2. If a suspicious SMS comes, check via official number 3. Never click links with courier extensions (bit.ly, tinyurl) in SMS 4. Give instructions to employees

Features of fake cargo SMS: unofficial number, short URL, urgency language ('click now'). Learn to spot these.

What happens if you click? Are details stolen immediately or is malware installed?

I'll argue the opposite don't get mad. Taking measures without an inventory leaves doors you haven't seen open.

If I were you I'd go this route.

I felt relieved reading this answer, so it's not just me. If you scold false alarms nobody will report again.

Hope this helps.

There's one point I'm curious about. Security isn't absolute; it's about making attacks not worth the effort.

There is something to watch out for. If permission and scope aren't in writing, don't start that test.

If you post the result here, it will help others too.

Could you elaborate on that? Taking notes for two weeks yields better results than a six-month estimate.

That's all sorry if I went on too long.

Looking at it as a process, the picture changes. Don't hesitate to ask; those who don't ask always pay more.

Good luck with that.

Three different views emerged, they all complement each other. Trying to do this alone is the most expensive way.

Let me summarize what's been said so far. The harder it is to reverse a decision, the slower you should make it.

Let me summarize what's been said so far. Everything goes well for the first three months; problems arise in the fourth.

Most time waste accumulates in tasks waiting for approval. Correct me if I'm wrong.

This thread is archived. Any unwritten clause becomes a point of disagreement later, as both sides remember it differently.

We got stuck at the same point for a while. Hasty decisions become decisions you have to fix six months later.

Good luck with that.
